Mexico Dog Rescue – Happy Endings
Chance’s Story
3-year old “Doggi” (didn’t have a name) was rescued from an abusive situation where he was tied up in a gravel pit out in the hot sun, and Huellitas de Acero A.C. Puerto Escondido rescued him.
We’re so happy to report that “Doggi” has now been adopted, and his new name is CHANCE!
From his adoptive mom: “I spend a day at Huellitas in Puerto Escondido while I was down in Huatulco. I wanted to help the shelter tell their story so that more dogs get adopted and people support them through donations.
I didn’t realize the kind of impact that day would have on me. Cheryl (the primary volunteer) is an absolute angel on earth. The amount of time she spends at the shelter ensuring that all of the dogs are cared for and loved is over and above. To spend time there is humbling. I spend days after crying, not because the dogs are not happy and well-cared for (they are!), but because the reason that most of them are there is because they were literally discarded, and that some of them will live out their entire lives without having a family to call their own.
I was signed up to be a flight angel on my way home from Huatulco, and I would be flying Doggi to Canada in hopes that he would get adopted (all arranged by the shelter). When I met him at the airport he was incredibly traumatized – he barely moved and was absolutely terrified of everything. It was heartbreaking.
By the end of the 6.5 hour flight, I was in love with this sweet little sad, traumatized boy who had already been through so much. I named him Chance, and finalized the adoption shortly after I arrived back home.
Now 2.5 months later, this quirkly, loving, sweet and extraordinarily loyal boy is the best thing that happened to me. He loves belly rubs and crawling under the covers to sleep with momma. He’s still scared of most men, loud noises, and other dogs, but given what he’s been through it’s understandable, and it gets a little better everyday.
If you’re considering adding to your family, there is no love like the love of a rescue. Please support Huellitas by donating if you can so that they can continue to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome these precious dogs. xoxo

Imagine a dog, alone and scared, abandoned on the streets of Mexico. Their future uncertain, filled with hunger, fear and sickness.
