Unlike many animal shelters, Huellitas de Acero A.C. relies entirely on volunteers to care for the over 130 dogs in our rescue, to conduct rescues in the community, help with outreach, and so much more.
Our rescued dogs have faced difficult pasts. They crave love, companionship, and a chance to experience the joy of life.
You can be the hero in the eyes of a rescued dog.
From walking and socializing dogs to taking a dog with you on the plane as a flight angel, you’ll directly contribute to the well-being of these rescued animals and maybe even help them find their forever homes.
Doggy Cuddlers & Playful Pals
Do you have a heart overflowing with love for dogs? Our rescued pups crave affection and playtime. Become a cuddle companion or a playful pal! Spend time socializing with our dogs, giving them belly rubs, walks around the shelter grounds, or engaging in some fun games with them. Your love and attention can make a world of difference in their lives, reducing stress and helping them blossom.
Beach Buddies & Adventure Aficionados
Do you crave scenic walks and enjoy furry companions? Take a rescued dog for a refreshing walk on the beach, or explore the beautiful Puerto Escondido surroundings. Your walks provide much-needed exercise, mental stimulation, and a chance for these dogs to feel special and loved.
Leash Training Champions
Help our rescued dogs become more adoptable by teaching them basic leash manners. Share your love of dogs and witness their transformation!
Veterinary Companions
Assist with transporting dogs in need of bloodwork or other veterinary appointments. Lend a calming presence and ensure their safe journey.
Airport Angels
Play a key role in happy endings! Help us transport adopted dogs to their forever homes by driving them to the Huatulco or Puerto Escondido airport.
Flight Angels
Flying home from Huatulco or Puerto Escondido? Flight Angels are always needed to safely transport a rescued dog from Mexico to their forever home (or an associated dog rescue organization). It’s easy (we coordinate everything), doesn’t cost you a thing (we cover all costs), and you get to be the reason one of our dogs gets to live out the rest of its days in a forever home!
How would you like a private room with double bed with private toilet, shared kitchen and big rooftop with hammocks and a sea view, walking distance to the amazing Zicatela market, restaurants and shops, steps away from the sea and Zicatela beach with amazing sunsets?
Julia, an incredibly generous Workaway host, is offering all of this in exchange for your help as a volunteer at our shelter 4 hours per day 5 days per week!!
