Mexico Dog Rescue – Happy Endings
Zoey’s Story
One-year-old Zoey was rescued from an abusive situation where she was kept in a cage no bigger than herself out in the hot sun, and Huellitas de Acero A.C. Puerto Escondido took her in.
This is one of our volunteers, Gabriela Martinez, and below is what she wrote about her experience with taking shelter puppy Zoey out for a beach day.
“I am volunteering at the Huellitas de Acero dog shelter through the program Workaway (www.workaway.com/). My time at the shelter has been an incredible and valuable experience. I want to show you the happy side of this work, because we all know that at times it can be very sad and discouraging.
“Through volunteering I was able to take Zoey out for a day of freedom. She is an amazing young pup and full of personality. However, she doesn’t come out of her shell until the second she leaves the shelter gates. She loves playing and was eager to meet every person and dog on the beach. Oh! Did I mention she loved the kitten at our apartment complex?
“For many dogs, this shelter is a safe and happy place where they have food, shelter, and friends. For Zoey, the shelter is a safe place but it is not HER place, and it is so important that we adopt out these well-adjusted and socialized dogs before it is too late.”
We’re so happy to report that Zoey has now been adopted!
Here are some photos of Zoey’s journey…
Imagine a dog, alone and scared, abandoned on the streets of Mexico. Their future uncertain, filled with hunger, fear and sickness.
