Flying home? Take a rescue dog with you

Huellitas de Acero is a volunteer-run dog rescue in Puerto Escondido. We have over 130 dogs in our care at any time, and many of them have adopters waiting in Canada and the US. What they need is a seat on a plane going north.

A Flight Angel is a traveller who’s already flying home from PXM or Huatulco and brings one of our dogs in the cabin.

  • It costs you nothing. We pay for the dog’s ticket.
  • We handle the paperwork. Health certificate, vaccination records, screwworm certificate for US flights, and the travel crate.
  • We meet you at the airport 2 hours before your flight and stay until you’re checked in.
  • The adopter meets you when you land and clear customs.

The only requirement is a flight that’s already booked, from PXM or HUX, with room in your carry-on allowance for a dog.

Become a Flight Angel. Fill in the form once your flight is booked and we’ll match you with a dog that fits your airline and route.

Want to meet the dogs before you fly? Visitors and volunteers are welcome at the shelter.

If you don’t know what a flight angel is, it’s when you volunteer with a dog shelter to take a dog on a flight to it’s new adopted home on your way back from vacation.

When you travel, check with nearby dog shelters and ask if they need a flight angel to your home town. They are always so desperate for them; they and the adopted doggie parents will be forever grateful to you.

It’s how I give back to the community I’ve been visiting. It doesn’t cost you anything and the shelter takes care of everything, it’s super easy! You just have to love dogs. 🙂
